Utthana – Kannada Monthly Magazine
This magazine was founded in the year 1965. It serves as a vehicle for nationalist thoughts in the society. The first issue of the magazine in October 1965 had 112 pages and was released as a special issue for Vijayadashami.. Kempe Gowda’s statue featured in the cover page of the magazine. The magazine’s aim is to provide a healthy fair to its reader along with a variety of write-ups.
Eminent litterateurs of the State like Masti Venkatesh Iyengar, Gorur Ramaswamy Iyengar, Dr. V K Gokak, Pavem Acharya, Dr. Siddhaiah Puranik and others have encouraged this magazine in its endeavours.
During the 25th anniversary on November 8, 1992, Dr. Chidananda Murthy, C Ashwath and Rasika Puttige participated. Dr. Chidananda Murthy who delivered the presidential address said that “Utthana should continue to be a literary service rather than merely a business proposition”.
Geeta Bharati
As the name suggests, the wing brings out audio products, cassettes and CDs in keeping with its classic nationalist themes. Several patriotic songs brought out by Geeta Bharati are popular throughout the State. The first audiocassette on patriotic songs was released on January 10, 1982. The artistes were H K Narayan, Shyamala Bhave and Shankar Shanbogue.
Geeta Bharati has also brought out audio-cassettes on inspiring lectures on themes of swadeshi and cultural nationalism. They included “The Tragic Story of Partition, Vande Mataram, Swadeshi Awareness, and other nationalist themes.
Geeta Ramayan by Mumbai Akashavani artist and popular Singer Vasant Ajgaonkar was also released.
The Bharatha Darshana lecture series by Late Vidyananda Shenoy have become popular throughout the country. The Bharatha Darshana lectures dwell on the hoary past of the nation and the inspiring stories of its geography, which includes the mountains, rivers and the valleys along with the places of pilgrimage. Cassettes and CDs of Geeta Bharati have reached over 50,000 homes. The cassettes have helped to build an aura of positive values among its listeners.
To date, Geeta Bharati has brought out more than 36 audiocassettes.
