PROPS
Yoga props are extremely useful in helping to create sthira (steadiness) and sukha (comfort) in the asana practice. They help to accommodate anatomical differences, tight muscles and joints and limited ranges of motion. When used effectively, yoga props assist with relaxation, balance, support, and posture.
Props like blocks, belts, straps, chairs, walls, ropes, bolsters, blankets and non-skid mats provide the following benefits:
- Protect and strengthen weak muscles
- Prevent fatigue and prolong energy, especially in students with health issues or weaknesses
- Avoid new injuries and keep old ones from worsening
- Support body during weight-bearing exercises and help to prevent falls
- Ensure safety during inversions
- Lengthen the spine
