Successful English Saptaha: Indian Authors and Poets @ JGRV-KN

Bengaluru: “The English language is a work in progress. Have fun with it.”
JGRV Kalyan Nagar organized an event called “English Saptaha” to celebrate Indian authors and poets. Saptaha started on 6th of Sept.
Day 1: Chi. Tharan of class 8 spoke about the Significance of English Language and then students sang a beautiful song ‘Rise brothers…’ from ‘Coromandel Fishers’ written by the famous Indian writer Smt. Sarojini Naidu. Tiny tots of class 1 danced and sang a song on vowels. Students of class 10 discussed about the great poets and authors of India who write in English.
Day 2: Monish from 7th C gave away a speech on Mahatma Gandhi and his literary works. Students also learnt 2 new words with meanings and about the usage of those words in a sentence.
Day 3: Students of class 6 recited a beautiful poem ‘All things bright and beautiful…’
Chi. Yogeesh of class 7th C spoke about the great Indian English writer Rabindranath Tagore’s life and works. Children of class 2 sang a wonderful song ‘Sharing and caring…’
Students of class 9 performed a skit ‘The enchanted pool’ written by the famous Indian English writer Chakravarty Rajagopalachary which mesmerized the audience.
Day 4: The students of 10th Std. enacted a play called ‘A Hero’ from the stories written by R.K. Narayan’s ‘Swami and his friends’. In the beginning Keerthana of X A spoke about R.K. Narayan, his birth, education, literary works, his achievements and the awards won by him. The students of X enacted the hilarious drama, and the audience enjoyed the program.
Kum. Gangotri from 7’A’ spoke about Swami Vivekananda and his literary works. Grade 6 ‘B’ students recited Sympathy poem and Grade 5 students recited elephant poem with great enthusiasm. We also celebrated “Rhymes Day” where all the tiny little tots of pre-primary recited many rhymes which was a feast to watch.
On account of English saptaha handwriting competition was conducted to all the students from Grade 1 to Grade 10. Students participated with great interest and zeal.
Day 5: Students of class IV performed an activity, based on Parts of speech with examples. IV Std boys recited a beautiful poem, “I Want to fly ” with actions. Quiz competition was conducted by IX B students in which many students participated with lots of enthusiasm and were awarded. Anuja from 7’A’ spoke about ‘Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’ and his literary works. Kamala Ravi Mathaji taught two new words as a part of English Saptaha.
Valedictory Ceremony: Col. Kumar ji and Smt. Jayanthi Mathaji graced the valedictory ceremony.
Children of classes 1, 2 and 3 dressed up themselves as the great Indian English authors and performed Fancy dress competition. Kum. Janaki from 7th Std spoke about the great writer Abdul Kalam and his contributions. Smt. Sheela Manhar ji taught new English words to the children. Students of class 7 performed a beautiful skit ‘Ekalavya’ which taught us many moral values. Students who won prizes in ‘Spell Bee’ and ‘Handwriting competition’ were awarded with certificates by the dignitaries.
Smt. Jayanthi mathaji addressed the gathering and inspired the students to develop curiosity to learn new things and ask more questions to the teachers. Col. Kumar ji appreciated the teachers and students for their involvement in English Saptaha.
All in all, English Saptaha was a huge success.
