
Samraksha signs Landmark MoU with HCG to provide Bone Marrow Transplants for Thalassemia Patients at a subsidized cost
Bengaluru, Apr 7: Samraksha – Thalassemia Day Care Centre, in a significant step towards curative treatment for thalassemia, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HCG Cancer Hospital, this day herein Rashtrotthana Hospital, RR Nagar.
The event, titled “Healing Horizons Collaboration” marked the formalization of a life-changing partnership that will facilitate subsidized Bone Marrow Transplants (BMT) for thalassemia patients, especially from underprivileged backgrounds.
The MoU was exchanged in the presence of key dignitaries, Sri K S Narayana, Managing Trustee, Rashtrotthana Hospital and Ms. Manisha Kumar, Regional COO, HCG Karnataka.
Through this collaboration, Samraksha will identify eligible patients and provide holistic support, while HCG will offer the clinical expertise and infrastructure for the transplants. Coal India Foundation will play a pivotal role by supporting the financial requirements of deserving patients.
This partnership is a major leap in improving long-term outcomes and providing a potential cure for thalassemia – a condition that has long relied solely on regular blood transfusions for survival.
The service initiative, Samraksha – Thalassemia Day Care Centre was started on August 19, 2013 by initially taking up the treatment of 19 children. By 2021, the free service has been stretched out to 400+ children. The systematic care provided by the organization for the children suffering from Thalassemia has led to the increase in patient’s life expectancy and a better quality of life.
